Update – Rowan Pure Wool Worsted Afghan Knit-a-long

Just a quick update on the Pure Wool Wool Worsted Afghan Knit-a-long.

Pure Wool Worsted yarn ballOne square design will be released each week, as well as making up instructions over a ten week period, resulting in a surprise design by Martin Storey. I’m pretty sure there will be more than ten squares to knit in total though!

Rowan says that the feedback has been overwhelming as so many people all over the world want to take part. So, in order to get retailers around the globe time to prepare, the knit-a-long will be launched towards the end of March 2014.

If you have left me a comment letting me know that you are interested in taking part and are a subscriber to my blog I will be emailing you with the latest information when I receive it, which will hopefully be in 2 or 3 weeks. If you are not a subscriber and want to be kept informed of the knit-a-long you will need to subscribe to my blog.

  1. I am interested in the knit-along. I know I am too late to join, but I am downloading the patterns each week so I can do it when my wool comes!

    • Hi Ren, it’s not too late to join in but you will need to buy your yarn as the first pattern has already been published and the 2nd is out on Monday April 28 and every following Monday until all the 8 patterns are revealed and the making-up instructions. Here’s a link to my post about the shopping list and color combinations suggestions.

The only way to access the pattern is on Rowan’s website: http://www.knitrowan.com. It is on the Home page and No. 1 of the scrolling pictures…..just click on “Week One” and this will take you to the pattern and lots of other information relating to this KAL. To download the pattern you will need to be a member, which is free to do, and will also be a fantastic source of designs and knitting techniques and much more! If you have any problems downloading the pattern please let me know.

  2. I’d love to join this KAL! I’m almost beyond “fashionably late” to the party, but am ordering my yarn at this moment.

  3. Hi
Although, clearly very late, I am interested in finding out more about this knit-a-long, where do I find the ‘signing up’ details? Have only just found your blog too but already reading old posts and enjoying them!! Thanks

    Jane

  4. I’d like to join the Knit-Along, just heard about it yesterday. Has it started? If so, how should I catch up?

    • You are most welcome to join the KAL, Linda. If you want to receive immediate notification emails when I publish the weekly KAL information/patterns you will need to subscribe to my blog.

    • Yes, I am interested in joining the knit-a-long, and hoping that it is not too difficult , as I am somewhat of a new knitter.

      • Welcome to the KAL Tamie! No need to worry as the Afghan will be adaptable to suit your knitting experience. You can make a smaller Afghan if you think you might not be quick enough and I will have some other suggestions along the way to help you and anyone else that needs it. I will make sure that you will be fine and do a great job!

  5. I am interested in the worsted wool afghan KAL. I live in North Carolina. I have subscribed to your blog. Thank you!

    • That’s great DeAnne…..there are so many knitters from all over the world taking part in the KAL and as you have subscribed (thanks you!) you will receive my blog posts immediately they are published, which includes all the KAL information and patterns as soon as they are released!

    • You’re welcome to join the KAL Michelle. The shopping list for materials will be released soon and will go out to all my subscribers the moment I publish it…….so stay tuned!

  6. Would like to join in with this although I will be away the first two weeks of May. Could try to take yarn with me and access weekly updates whilst away. Not sure how much yarn I will need – hope it won’t work out too expensive!

    • Actually, Deb, this is an ideal project to do while you are away as you will be knitting squares…..very easy to carry around. I will help you work out what you will need to do if you have a smaller budget that you would like to keep to. For now, go and look at the Rowan website and the Pure Wool Worsted colours and see what shades you like. If you want to keep the price down I would choose to knit the afghan in just one colour.

    • Hi Silk Road Textiles, How wonderful that you have connected your group with my group. I’ve got you on the email list…..more info coming soon!

  7. yes please……I want a throw for myself…..when do i buy the wool/yarn and will I be able to get in USA. thanks

    • And this will be a super throw for you Karen! You will be able to buy the yarn in the US. Check out your local yarn stores for Rowan Pure Wool Worsted. If they do not have any I know Webs do…an online yarn store at http://www.yarn.com

    • I think it will be fun, Vicki……so many people knitting the same thing at the same time all over the world! I’ve put you on my email list!

    • Hi Sara, thanks for you’re reply and so pleased you enjoy my posts….always good to hear feedback but so nice that it is positive too! I’ll be emailing all my KAL interested subscribers soon……so stay tuned!

    • That’s OK Sandy…….I will include you in all the information emails from my subscribers email list. You can always knit the Afghan at a later date!

      • As it is a mystery KAL we will not know until it is finished but I think you will be able to work out the approximate size when the shopping list is released which should be in the next few weeks. I will be emailing this to my KAL interested subscribers so if you have subscribed to my blog, Michelle, I will include on this email.

  8. Looking forward to the KAL – haven’t done anything like this before! Getting excited about lots and LOTS of knitting!!

    • I do not know about the colours yet but you could choose your own colours if you want to…..or maybe just one colour. I imagine from the information that the squares will have different stitch patterns probably repeated a few times. So, there will be lots of texture even if you used a limited colour palette.
