Mystery Afghan Knit-a-long: Dates Released

So here it is…..the dates for the long awaited Martin Storey Mystery Afghan Knit-a-long.

Afghan KAL Poster For Blog_s copyThe first pattern will be published on the 21st April and every week, until the 16th June, another part of the afghan pattern will be released with making up instructions in the final week. Hopefully, you will all inundate me with photos of your Martin Storey Afghan at the end of June and along the way!

The date for this KAL has been delayed from the original date of mid February due to the incredible demand for knitters all over the world wanting to take part. Here on this blog I have over 100 knitters joining me in this KAL and there is still plenty of time to take part. As the response has been so high I have decided that I will publish the patterns here as a blog post every week so that you can knit the afghan along with me or at a later date if you wish. I will also try to keep you up to date of how I am doing and you can let me know how you are all doing too!

In the meantime, you could go and have a look at the Rowan Pure Wool Worsted shades…..there are 50 of them……to familiarise yourself with the colour choices, then when the shopping list is released at the beginning of April you will have a good idea of what you would like to buy.

If you would like to receive a notification email whenever I publish a new blog post you will need to subscribe to my blog. This will ensure that you will receive the afghan KAL patterns the moment they are released.

I would love to know if you are taking part in this knit-a-long. If you have not already left a reply saying that you are, click on the Leave a reply link found below at the bottom of this post or click here, and when the new page opens scroll to the bottom of the page to the ‘Leave a Reply’ box.

  1. I know it is late but I would like to join. I am in 3 dishcloh KAl’s also. Just love them all. Thanks!

  2. My wool just arrived and I am so excited to get started and to get caught up, but I need some help! I thought I would start on week 3 of the Rowan KAL but I cannot get the stitches right. I am so frustrated! I know some basic lace stitches (like feather and fan) but it looks like yfwd is different from the U.S. yo I am used to. How do you go from yfwd to sl1 without a k1 in between? Any help you can give would be so appreciated. I have watched every video I can find on YouTube but can’t find anything that shows exactly what I need. I’m about to cry!! Thank you so much in advance! Susan

  3. My wool has just arrived, so excited, will be starting straight away so I can catch up. Am going for the 5-colour way. Couldn’t afford Rowan wool so bought some Hayfield aran which I know from previous use, it will be just gorgeous. Everything else is going on the back burner for a bit. Have just discovered the joys of KALs and CALs, this is just my 3rd one but I’m sure wont be my last.

    • So glad you can join the Rowan KAL and are enjoying this way to knit and crochet! I totally understand that cost can often been a factor when considering buying 100% wool yarns and the yarn you bought will be significantly cheaper as it is 80% acrylic. Nevertheless, welcome to this amazing KAL and can’t wait to see your finish afghan!

      • Thanks Admin, would really have loved to use the Rowan yarn because it IS gorgeous but at the moment needs must.

  4. Hi there…can you give me some help with interpreting the week 2 pattern graph as I’ve never used one before!….am I correct in thinking that I start in the bottom right corner of the graph and that counts as row 1, RS – so, according to this graph Odd number rows are RS, Even number rows are WS. Row 1 would therefore be knit only, as would Row 2 – 5. Row 6 would be a WS row – K3, P35, K3 / Row 7 (& every odd row thereafter) = K. Am I correct?

    • Not too late to join the KAL Sharon. The first pattern is published tomorrow Thursday 17 April, but you will have 11 days to work on it before the 2nd pattern is published on Monday 28 April. Have you bought your yarn?

  5. Heard about your KAL from The Laughing Hen Wool and count me in, can’t wait to get started.
