I’ve just finished knitting this lovely pullover, designed by Sarah Hatton, with Rowan Cocoon. It was in the Holiday 2013 issue of Vogue Knitting and of all the great designs in this issue I just had to make this one. This is very timely as today snow is forecast and I’ve just looked out the window and it is indeed snowing!
I did not know which colour to go with and it took me ages to decide. The pullover in Vogue Knitting (pictured above) was knitted using the shade Frost #806. I decided to go with Saturn #837, a very dark purple and a new shade for A/W 2013/14 and bought my yarn from Deramores, a fabulous UK based online knitting store that delivers all over the world at amazing prices.
Anyway, here is my version………
As you can see I have made the sleeves longer and slimmed down the body slightly but I would love to make another using a lighter colour, maybe Polar, Umber, Moon or Duck Down, (see all shades of Cocoon below) and knit it up exactly as in the original design……..or maybe turn it into a cardigan?
Cocoon knits up really quickly as it has a tension/gauge of 14 stitches and 16 rows to 10cm using knitting needle size 7mm / (US) 10½. Rowan says that it is a,
“wonderful soft roving British yarn” and “a designer’s dream”. Cocoon is a mixture of merino wool and kid mohair and is indeed very soft and bouncy; it knits up into a very lofty and warm fabric, creating beautiful textured and cable stitches. It does need to be hand washed, but I always hand wash my precious hand knitted creations!
The only downside to this yarn is that it molts everywhere while knitting. It was like I had a white dog in the house! I’m hoping that with a few wears and washes this may lessen as I am not a fan of molting yarns!

love it sooooooooooo much i need your notes about the pattern how did you make it slimmed down the body …i have the pattern .. plz if you con post the photo ad notes on raverly ..thank you
I’ll need to check out what I did but pretty sure I would have decreased a stitch 2 stitches from the side seams every 4-6 rows until I had decreased about 2 inches at the waistline and then added the stitches back in a similar way. Maybe i should write a blog post about this sometime? Thanks for your comment Mervat!
