Giveaway Winner and Crochet, Crochet, Crochet!

Just a quick update on what has been going on with me in the past couple of months.

The Rowan Knitting and Crochet Magazine Number 61 was won by Merenie from Minnesota and when she received the magazine she emailed me saying, “It’s beautiful as all of Rowan’s magazines are.” And, just in case you were wondering how Merenie won the Magazine, she submitted the correct answer to the question, what design by Marie Wallin did I knit from Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine Number 58. The correct answer is Wintry.

I recently finished a crocheted baby blanket for a colleague, Bobbie, who is about to become a proud grandmother for the second time. I used Rowan Summerlite 4 ply in the shades white, duck egg, blushes and washed linen and the patterns from Lisa Richardson’s Crochet Along. Here’s a photo of the baby blanket waiting for the arrival of the baby!

Bobbie and I were proudly showing the baby blanket to our other colleagues, and why not because it is gorgeous, that another colleague, Chrissie, who just found out she is to become a grandmother for the first time begged me to make her one too. Chrissie chose the shades white, buttermilk, still grey and blushes. She decided she wanted to have a stronger color accent and the still grey will definitely do this.

Hexagonal crochet shapes for Baby blanket

So I am going to be busy crocheting these lovely little hexagonal shapes during June.

You may remember that I crocheted these patterns before and made them up into a shawl which I gave to my mum. Sadly my mum passed away on April 25. I now have the shawl back with me but I am comforted to know that she wore and loved the shawl I made for her.

  1. I MUST learn to crochet. I took a few classes in NYC at Lion Brand. The baby blanket and the shawl are beyond gorgeous. Can a good knitter handle any of these squares?

  2. I MUST learn to crochet! I took a few classes in NYC at Lion Brand and have the basic for edgings and things. But the shawl and the baby blanket are AMAZING!! Can a beginner (but good knitter) make any of those?

    • Hi Betty, this crochet along was designed to enable someone to learn crochet. Each hexagon introduces a technique which you repeat over and over again and then move on to the next hexagon to learn something else. By the time you get to the seventh and last hexagon you have learnt more than the basics of crochet and have made a beautiful baby blanket, shawl or cushion as well. Being a good knitter is a plus. Rowan also have videos to help you and the internet is full of helpful videos too. If you really want to learn how to crochet this is definitely the pattern for you!

  3. So sorry to hear your sad news Esther..my mum died last August & I know how painful it is . Sending you love xx
