As a Rowan Ambassador I was lucky and thrilled to be invited to the MODE at Rowan Press Event in June. You may have read my previous post about the event and how I watched a fashion show of all the new garments and tried on a few designs that caught my eye. Well, this is a follow-on from that post as the MODE at Rowan designs by Quail Studio will be launching on 1st August 2019.
The MODE at Rowan designers include Lisa Richardson, Martin Storey and Georgia Farrell, familiar to many Rowan knitters, but also Annika Andrea Wolke with Quail Studio contributing too. The collaboration from this diverse group of designers might be why I think the MODE at Rowan deigns work so well for me.
If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know that I tend to prefer fitted designs over baggy and unstructured ones. It’s not that I don’t like loose fitting garments, in fact when I see them on other people I think they look great, but on me…err…no…not quite right. Well this MODE at Rowan collection seems to have designs for me but also for those who like wearing more loosely fitted clothing.
Take a look at the oversized jumper Blue Haze from MODE at Rowan’s Alpaca Classic brochure in the video below. It’s a kind of hide-your-body type of jumper including right over your derriere!
And 012 Poncho from Collection One, a sort of jumper-cum-poncho which only touches the body at the neck and sleeve cuffs. The video gives you a great view of how the back looks very different from the front; a jumper from the front and a poncho from the back!
Want something a little less generous? How about the tunic Snowflake in Alpaca Classic with it’s draped shoulders and open-at-the-sides hem.

And then for something more fitted, 011 Tunic pictured below, knitted in Alpaca Classic. A simple design which follows the lines of the body ending at the waistline.

Or 008 Cardigan, although not fitted as such but has a body-slimming-effect stitch with set in sleeves. Watch the video below and you will see how the knitted fabric is very light in weight as it floats behind the model when she walks around. Very nice!
I did love this 008 Cardigan design so much when I tried it on at the event that I didn’t want to take it off. Consequently, I decided that it is the one I would like to knit from the collection. Rowan has sent me the yarn, Rowan Kid Classic in the shade Drought 876, as seen in the video, and I am in the process of knitting it up…
The MODE at Rowan designs for Autumn/Winter have been knitted using Alpaca Classic, Alpaca Soft DK, Big Wool, Brushed Fleece, Cashmere Tweed, Cocoon and Kid Classic. And there is also a special MODE at Rowan colour palette containing soft and light shades of pinks, blues, browns and greys but also the classics of black, cream and dark grey. The idea of keeping the shades soft and harmonious is so as a knitter you can see yourself wearing the garment even if you go on to knit the garment in a completely different colour, like a bright red. As a collection it works well and looks great too allowing you to envisage yourself in that garment.
Along with MODE at Rowan’s Collection One, Rowan has continued their partnership with Quail Studio and produced a series of four smaller MODE at Rowan brochures for Autumn/Winter 2019/20, each built around a single yarn: Brushed Fleece, Cashmere Tweed, Alpaca Classic and Big Wool Textures which are all launching 1st August 2019.
