Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine 75, a treasure trove for knitting enthusiasts, introduces 39 designs spanning two captivating collections: Botanic Gardens and Slip into Summer. Here’s an overview of five of my favourite patterns from Magazine 75: Archway, Blossom, Eucalyptus, Pollinate and Tropical, briefly explaining the design and techniques used for each pattern, but which one will I choose to knit this summer…

The eye-catching sweater, Blossom, designed by Arne & Carlos, boasts an intricate lace pattern throughout, accented by bold stocking stitch floral motifs that create captivating ‘shadows’. This ingenious design transforms the traditional round neck sweater into a sophisticated and distinctive knit. Knitted with the finest Summerlite DK yarn for a soft-feel finish.

Embrace the arrival of spring with this delightful cropped tee, Eucalyptus, by Florence Spurling. Ingenious touches enhance the charm of this summer tee, Tropical. Crafted seamlessly from the top down and in the round, Chloe Thurlow’s exquisite short-sleeved knit showcases a Fair Isle yoke and delicate cables gracefully cascading down the body and sleeves. The rolled hem and cuffs further contribute to the overall allure of this stunning design. Knitted by combining Kidsilk Haze and Summerlite 4ply yarns for a luxurious finish.

I took considerable time deliberating between the patterns mentioned above for my summer knitting this year. Eventually, I narrowed it down to two contenders: Archway and Tropical. In the end, Tropical emerged victorious due to its captivating cable details, which I deemed perfect for adding subtle shaping along the body. Although I initially admired the pale blue hues depicted in the pattern’s photo, I ultimately opted for shades of pink. Therefore, I’ve decided to knit Tropical using Summerlite 4ply in Blushes and Kidsilk Haze in Grace.
