Recently I discovered that my local yarn shop Mew Mews Yarn Shop in Lafayette, Colorado, not only sold everything a knitter or crochetter (is that a word?) might need but also Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK yarn. This was a fantastic find as I had in my possession Rowan Studio Issue 30, a booklet containing 12 patterns for babies and children up to 5 years designed by Sarah Hatton, one of my most favourite designers, and all using Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK yarn. I will be giving away this pattern booklet to one lucky winner on the last day of the Yarn Along the Rockies yarn crawl in Mew Mews Yarn Shop ………read on to the end of this post to learn how to enter the Prize Draw.
Rowan says on their website about this booklet (shown above):
Folk influences were to be found for both adult and child’s wear this season and Rowan Studio 30 offers a capsule wardrobe of knits for every little fashionista! From a cosy ‘grandad’ cardigan for boys to a pretty cape for girls. Hopefully this collection will have everyone wishing they were young again.

Baby Merino Silk DK is a luxury yarn developed specifically for babies with a recommended knitting needle size of US 6 / 4mm. It is a machine washable blend of 66% merino wool and 34% silk that has a wonderful soft handle that is ideal for your little ones. However, it is also great for shawls and cardigans such as Isis, seen here on the right, which can be found in Enchanted, a pattern book full of designs by Kim Hargreaves using many different Rowan yarns.
The yarn becomes a light and soft fabric when knitted up with a slight silky sheen. It has great stitch definition so cables and textured stitches will look great! It comes in 20 pretty colours with the darker shades having a speck-like fleck running through them, which is something I really liked. Here’s a look at all the colours:
